Internships in the construction industry offer a powerful gateway for students and emerging professionals to gain hands-on experience in one of the world’s most dynamic and essential sectors. From civil engineering and project management to architecture and safety compliance, construction internships span a wide range of disciplines, each contributing to the creation of the built environment around us.

Construction is a field where theory meets practice. Internships allow students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios – whether they are reading blueprints, managing timelines, or coordinating with subcontractors. These experiences not only build technical skills but also foster soft skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Over the summer, Alcorn brought on two interns, one at our Colorado office and one at our Arizona office. We asked them both about their time as interns at Alcorn.

Our intern in the Arizona office, Ryan Blokker, said, “I got this opportunity after reaching out to John Radice, who was kind enough to suggest my name for the internship position. From there, I spoke with Dave Vine to learn more about the company and then met some of the team during my interview. That experience really showcased the company’s great culture and made me excited to join.”

Cedar Bailey, who started as an intern with Alcorn’s Colorado office in the Summer of 2024 and has continued since said, “This is my second summer interning with Alcorn, and I have learned more than I can put into one simple post. However, here are some of the most utilized and relevant things I’ve learned: The ability to use complex reasoning to help solve problems as they appear, as well as the ability to use Procore, Microsoft Project, plan reading, scheduling logic, and how to have fun at work.”

Whether you're studying engineering, architecture, or construction management, an internship can be the key to unlocking your potential. It’s more than just a summer job, it’s a chance to build your future, one project at a time.
